About Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants on either side of the missing tooth called abutment teeth, and are attached to an artificial tooth or row of teeth called pontics.
During your first appointment a small amount of enamel is taken off the abutment teeth to allow for the placement of crowns over them. Next, a precise impression is made that will be the model for the bridge, pontics and crowns. While your bridge is being made in a dental lab, you’ll be provided with a temporary bridge to protect the exposed teeth and gums.
At your following appointment, the temporary bridge will be removed and your permanent bridge will be fitted and cemented for a proper fit. Depending on the patient’s particular case, we will either cement the bridge permanently at this time or wait to do so at a later date.
With proper at-home dental care and regular check ups, your bridges can last 10 years or more. An effective, and minimally invasive procedure, dental bridges will give you the confidence to speak and smile freely again.
